Vaccinations

When a child is infected with a virus, their body’s immune system kicks into overdrive, producing antibodies that can help them fight the infection. Unfortunately, since the body has never seen this type of foreign invader before, your child gets sick; however, once their immune system has come into contact with that specific infection, it will have the antibodies needed to fight it the next time and to avoid future illnesses.

Along with protecting your child and your family, getting kids immunized also protects the community at large. The more children are vaccinated the less concern there is for an outbreak of a potentially dangerous disease. Vaccines also prevent unnecessary doctor and hospital visits, reduce the amount of sick days your child has to deal with and can be incredibly cost effective.

Your child will require multiple vaccinations from birth until they become an adult. Make sure that your child is visiting our pediatricians regularly to keep up to date on their vaccines.

The Importance of Vaccinations

Children are more vulnerable to infectious, contagious diseases because a child’s immune system isn’t fully developed. Vaccinations are the most effective way to protect against serious and deadly diseases like meningitis, polio, and hepatitis.

Vaccines provide important benefits like these:

  • Effectiveness. Boasting a 90-99% success rate in preventing contagious, infectious, and serious diseases. They are also required for your child to attend school or daycare.
  • Safety. Vaccines are tested in multiple clinical trials and need to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and reviewed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Academy of Family Physicians before they are released to the public.
  • Convenience. Vaccines can be administered during a routine well-child visit, so you don’t have to make an additional appointment just for vaccinations.
